Girls Just Wanna have Sun
Cityscape caught up with Ballantynes’ stylist Anna Williams on the finer points of working a multitasking summer essential.
‘Tis the season for fun, sun and festivities, and my pick for your essential summer wardrobe item is The Dress! Not only is The Dress a practical solution to any occasion, it offers classic style and a host of options. Slides, jandals or designer trainers will dress it down. Add the essential sun hat, a tote bag (my favourite right now is Yu Mei’s Veitch Tote, pictured right) and the no-excuses accessory of a fabulous pair of designer sunglasses, and you’re at the beach or a BBQ. An hour or two later, and with a simple shoe swap out from a flat to this season’s hottest trend – the embellished heel – and the addition of essential sparkles, The Dress takes you from the BBQ to an overdue Christmas catch-up with special friends. Dress lengths are varied this season. Missing from vogue for way too long (in my opinion), is the ankle-grazing option. It screams summer and with fabrics appearing to float, you can embrace the irresistible feminine flirty look – you won’t regret it! Colours like blush; navy and green remain prominent this season, with shades of hazelnut filtering through. Even stripes and florals – those two trusty pillars of the summer print line-up – are back with more bite, more verve and more tempting iterations to make everyone look twice! So take a fresh fabric with a classic cut, add the appropriate accessories and make The Dress your gift to yourself (and your mother, your sister and your babysitter) this festive season.
