In The Market

At an age when most teens are awkwardly navigating their way through high school, Crowne Plaza Christchurch’s new executive chef Mirco Turtschi’s culinary journey had already begun. The gourmet ninja at the swanky hotel’s slick new eatery Market Place Restaurant started his chef apprenticeship back in Switzerland at just 15, working his way up through the ranks before heading to New Zealand’s shores 11 years later. Honing his skills and acclimatising himself to the country’s fresh produce at cafés in Blenheim and Picton, he then went on to rock some of country’s finest hotel kitchens at the Langham Hotel in Auckland and Crowne Plaza Queenstown with his respectful handling of both regions’ finest ingredients.

Continuing his reputation for gastronomic excellence in Christchurch, Mirco has created a market-style dining experience that showcases his careful selection of Canterbury’s finest and freshest, all packaged up in an interactive dining concept that features a live cooking station where lucky guests can select their protein of choice and have it expertly cooked just how they like it.
