CMNZ: Kuijken Quartet
Internationally acclaimed Belgian violinist, violist and conductor Sigiswald Kuijken formed the String Quartet that bears his name in 1986; and they’ve been wowing audiences of music lovers all over the world ever since. This autumn locals get their chance to enjoy this acclaimed groups musical artistry when they play the Charles Luney Auditorium on July the 12th.
A family affair, the quartet is made up of Sigiswald, his wife Marleen, and his daughter Sara, who are joined for their New Zealand tour by guest cellist Michel Boulanger. All are world-class performers; in Christchurch they’ll be tackling Haydn’s mercurial Quartet in E-flat ‘The Joke’ as well as two works for string quartet by Mozart, offering a special chance for local chamber music fans to catch some greats of the repertoire as performed by truly top-level talent.
