CSO: Lamb & Hayward Masterworks – Tchaikovsky 5
The CSO brings us Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony, With themes and melodies heavily imbued with Russian character, it reminds us of the great composers fierce pride in his Russian heritage. It is an unapologetically romantic work, traversing tragedy to joyfulness in a dramatic and grandiose musical journey.
The performance will also include Elgar’s poignant Sospiri (Sighs), composed in the months preceding the outbreak of World War I.
Finally, the orchestra is joined by British violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen (pictured), who makes her CSO debut performing Samuel Barber’s lyrical and brilliant Concerto for Violin.
