City Italian hotspot Baretta is one of just two New Zealand restaurants that will hold a super exclusive degustation dinner hosted by luxury winemaker Cloudy Bay’s head viticulturist Jim White next month as part of the national Pinot & Duck Tasting Trail.
The not-to-be-missed gastronomic celebration for food and wine enthusiasts on 4 May marks the annual culinary highlight’s fourth year, and will see a specially-curated menu marrying four exquisite courses inspired by duck season to a flight of Cloudy Bay Pinot Noirs, with insider intel from White on the finer points of the pairings and the art of creating world class wine, for just $150 per person.
The well-balanced and delicate palate of the Pinot pairs perfectly with a game as rich as duck, says White. “The complex layers of each Pinot Noir vintage offers a bright acidity, bold enough to cut through the meats earthy flavour. I am extremely excited about this year’s addition of the two winemaker dinners and I look forward to sharing some of my knowledge with local food and wine enthusiasts. Each Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir vintage is unique and scarce, representing the rare natural climate of our Marlborough and Central Otago regions.”
The Pinot & Duck Tasting Trail starts on 1 May (coinciding with duck season) and invites selected chefs around the country to create a signature duck dish to complement the wines, with patrons at participating restaurants (announced next week) able to enjoy the bespoke pairings at a set price from some of New Zealand’s most sought-after eateries until the end of May.
