Madam Woo opens its doors in Christchurch
Forget Asian fusion; the pairing behind Madam Woo are bringing the authentic taste of Malaysian hawker food to Christchurch with the opening of their new restaurant, the chain's fifth.
Rocking some serious hawker chic, the slinky soon-to-be hot spot features some gnarly street art alongside more traditional pieces while cans of cutlery and chopsticks can be found in the centre of the table (alongside chopstick 'helpers' for less nimble diners). The highly-acclaimed Malaysian restaurant is the brainchild of co-founder Michelin-star celeb chef Josh Emett and his business partner Fleur Caulton, who are thrilled to unveil another addition to the family of super-popular establishments.
“With Madam Woo we really wanted to bring kiwis a unique dining experience with big personality that reflects the hustle and bustle of Malay street food. With the success of our other four restaurants across the country, we decided it was the right time to bring the vibrant and full flavours from Malaysia to the streets of Christchurch,” says Josh.
The new Christchurch restaurant is stylishly designed to reflect the colourful identity of Madam Woo, with each detail of décor contributing to its vibrant, bold and sassy character.
“We seek to establish a fun, lively and enjoyable environment that guests want to be a part of time and time again,” adds Fleur.
Offering energetic and bold dishes inspired by traditional Malaysian flavours – lifelong favourites for both Josh and Fleur – the Madam Woo Christchurch menu includes established favorites such as honey and soy tossed squid, stir fried pork belly, the famous Hawker Roll, renowned in foodie song and story – it's a roti Canai style-roll topped with your choice of fillings, and if you haven't had the chance to eat one yet, you need to remedy this quick smart, along with the epic humming shredded duck and cabbage salad and insane goodness of their Portuguese custard tarts. Be sure to wash it down with a specially brewed Hallertau Woo Brew Golden Ale or signature cocktail the exotic Madam You or the excellently refreshing ginger mojito.
The new restaurant on 255 St Asaph Street is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, and will also offer a takeaway service. Check it out!
