A number of venues around the city are hosts to regular open mic nights, inviting all-comers to get up there and give things a go in a low pressure environment. Here’s our rundown:

Alvarado’s Mexican Cantina
Boo’s open mic every Wednesday night rolls from 9:30pm to a bit after midnight, with casual sign ups at the bar itself from 9pm. Originals, covers, whatever your bag is, they’re keen to give it a listen – and every performer gets a free drink! For a more casual approach, just bring your instrument down for a bit of a jam. Becks Southern Alehouse
Becks legendary jam session drops on the first Wednesday of every month from 8 – 11pm. It’s super casual – just grab your instrument, roll on up, and see what happens!
The Bog’s regular Wednesday night open mic from 8pm lets you showcase your talent in a positive environment, and this winter bloomed into their recently completed “Star of the Bar” competition, with the winner grabbing a paid gig for two months. Jump in and get practicing for the next one!
The cool St Asaph Street space that is Space Academy is venue for Catalyst Literary Journal’s monthly open mic poetry night, held on the first Wednesday of every month. Get some culture of a Wednesday night with your wine or beer or release your own darlings into the world. Koha entry.
