Bishop Brothers Public House

Cosy Pub/New Zealand Cuisine

Riffing on the 50s retro rustic cool of Bishopdale’s famous orchards and the three brothers (James, Robert and William) the suburb is named after, the brand spanking new Bishop Brothers Public House is all about fantastic food in a relaxing atmosphere, says owner Mark Pearce.

The new neighbourhood gastro tavern takes its cues from the Bishop boys’ fruitful legacy, with the former Little Italy/Farrington Tavern site transformed into a modern gastro-tavern that effortlessly blends the rustic charms of an apple packhouse aesthetic with 50’s diner chic. Funky booth seating meets solid wooden furniture and retro flourishes, including old valve radios and other similarly-aged artefacts to set the scene.

Award-winning local chef Kathryn Ahu elevates gastro-pub fare to the next level at the new venue, with a menu that includes not only pub-grub faves but also plenty of Bishop Brothers spins on classic dishes. That hard work is paying off, too, with the venue picking up a Beef and Lamp Excellence Award for 2017. Look too for their legendary platters, baked pork belly, steamed mussel pots, chargrilled venison Denver leg, chicken wing buckets, the Bishop’s seafood stew and funked up Fush ‘n’ Chups – all perfect after a hard day in the orchard, or wherever else you put your hard day in! Mark's new joint also offers to host and cater for functions both large and small, with a private function room included.

With a careful selection of New Zealand and international wines, ciders, beers (including several craft beers) and their own cocktails, Bishop Brothers is a top pick for after-work drinks, celebrating or catching up with mates, or gathering the clan for an enjoyable meal out.
