The Happening Bar & Kitchen

European/Swishy Bar

This brand new central city venue offers outstanding hospitality near the Isaac Theatre Royal and the bustling New Regent Street.

Step inside and enter their luxe, elegant space, with the custom-designed furniture and opulent black and gold decor creating a space where the Great Gatsby would surely feel at home. Pull up a chair and experience dining like no other, with exceptional service joining the luxurious setting.

80% of the ingredients used in their dishes are locally sourced and produced. Meat lovers in particular may find it difficult to go past the signature dish, the Frenchsingha – a Portuguese-inspired sandwich that contains a medium rare steak, chorizo, and bacon drenched in Chef Scott's own secret recipe beer-buttered sauce – but there’s plenty more to intrigue and entice on their European-inspired menu with a twist, including a number of gluten-free and vegetarian options. They're here to give you what you want – don't like beer buttered sauce? No problem; swap it out with one of their wide range of options to create your own perfect tastes.

It’s all complemented with New Zealand wines (their wine list is 98% locally produced, in fact) and local, best-of-their-class and award-winning craft beers served up on tap ((at just $10!) from their custom-designed barrels. The Happening also loves to show off New Zealand talent when it comes to vodka and rum. The cocktail list offers something a little bit different; step away from the same-old same-old with The Happening's own twists for a truly novel drinking experience. The bar and dining experience is capped off with live music on Friday and Saturday nights from talented local acts.

They're now also offering spectacular High Teas to share for 3 to 4 people for just $48 – included is perhaps the city's largest tea collection. With 3 brands (Mlesna, Basilur and Dilmah) providing a total of 53 different blends and choices to choose from, it's tea-lover's heaven! Look out for their new tea cocktails, which are on the way soon!

It’s the perfect place for dinner before your show at the Isaac Theatre Royal or drinks and a chat afterwards, or simply a relaxed, enjoyable social occasion – a romantic dinner, catch-up with friends, or some after-work drinks with a touch of class.
