Q&A: Teresa Sime
Cityscape had a chat to Teresa Sime, who is leading the helm at her own salon Lovoir Skin Body & Beauty, about the treatments she specialises in and her go-to advice for hydration.
Specialty/favourite facial treatment? Multiple combination treatments – having the ability to use multiple modalities of peels, Dermapen and IPL to get the best results for my client.
How and when did you get into the beauty business? I began in the beauty industry when I was 16. I got a position on reception at an up and coming day spa in Marlborough where I was lucky enough to study beauty therapy while I worked part time and then immersed myself into the role of a beauty therapist. When I was in a supervisory role we won best clinic in New Zealand as awarded by the New Zealand Beauty Association.
What’s the best thing about working for Lovoir? We only purchased the salon in April so it's incredibly fresh! Being the owner I guess this question is a little tricky but I think the best thing is seeing the salon grow and the staff enjoying their working day. I really enjoy teaching therapists; watching their knowledge increase and their passion grow brings me a lot of satisfaction. Knowledgeable and happy therapists create well-informed and happy clients.
What makes you a great facialist? I like to think of the whole picture. You cannot have a beautiful skin when nutrition is lacking or lifestyle is detrimental to the client’s skin goals.
One quirky tip for great skin that most people won’t know about? One part traditional apple juice to nine parts water hydrates the body well for those who can't drink as much water as they should!
Top tip for someone who’s never been to a facialist? Book at a reputable salon, let your therapist know what your skin concerns are and let your therapist work her magic. The beauty industry is growing at a phenomenal rate and we have access to so many amazing modalities now!
Fave simple self-love treatment? I love to do an enzyme peel and then infuse my hydration and antioxidant serums using a dermal roller to refresh and brighten my skin. A sheet mask and little polish while my mask is on sweetens the treat!
