The plan for The Dish was cooked up between three friends who shared a dream to open a restaurant. All three had worked in the restaurant business in some capacity, one with seven years of experience as a chef cooking Asian cuisine, so they knew they had the makings of something special. It took about two years for the plan to come to fruition, but eventually, the trio found an empty Montreal Street space in 2018 and set about transforming it into the sleek, Tokyo-chic-inspired interior of The Dish, which opened its doors for the first time in November 2019.
A modern Asian fusion restaurant, the menu at The Dish is a smorgasbord of impossible choices, from fresh oysters with chilli jam and crispy shallots to Peking duck roti sliders with plum sauce. There is also a wide selection of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options, with many items on the menu able to be customised to suit dietary requirements. The beef cheek massaman curry comes highly recommended by the team, but if you’re having difficulty choosing, sharing plates are a good way to sample as many of the flavours as possible.
The experience at this restaurant is sophisticated and welcoming, and the staff work hard to make you feel at home and at ease. It’s a popular dining destination where tables fill up fast and the buzz of conversation adds to the good vibes and relaxed atmosphere.
