Spring/summer 2020 casual wear tips: Death by Denim's Elsie Burt

You’ll find Elsie Burt at Death by Denim, a top-to-toe boutique that touts the transformative power of that perfect pair of jeans, with stores in the central city and Merivale.

This season there is a rise in femininity with more florals and floaty tops, but paired with distressed and detailed jeans to give the whole look an urban feel.

There are so many awesome brands in store right now. Zhrill have totally nailed both denim and blazers this season, we are super excited to have women’s Diesel in the city store, and LTB’s summer drop next month is going to be amazing. Stock changes every week so its always fresh and there is always something new to try. Oh! And Stella + Gemma and Hammill & Co continue to wow their fans with each range.

I've noticed this year that denim joggers, the look of jeans but the feel of a jogger, are showing a real increase. I think post-lockdown we are all looking to smarten back up without losing that comfort.

Green is totally the colour of the season, and it’ll continue through 2021. From khaki to apple green there are options to suit all skin tones, and with tees, sweaters, blouses and blazers there are options for all styles too.

I’m a huge fan of Cult of Individuality’s Light Sands Gypsy High Rise jeans. I haven’t taken mine off since I got sent the sample. The wash is spot-on for the spring season, light coloured to take us to summer with a hint of black running through so the style stays sharp. Stella + Gemma can do no wrong at the moment with great tee’s, sweaters and cardys. I love the Lili Sidonio Blazer, its got green lining to highlight the subtle green in the design and add that detail we all want. Seduce and Zafina have given us a beautiful spring floral palette to brighten our spring wardrobe, including a dress that can take you from the office to the races and back. And I have to big up Garcia for their spring fashion. The satin-fronted tees in a variety of colours make a casual tee an event and add flexibility to your wardrobe.

Everyone should have denim in their wardrobe. You can never have enough jeans!

Remember, jeans will stretch, tops will shrink, but if you love it keep it at the back of your wardrobe and it will come back into fashion (this season: tie dye is back).

A number of our suppliers are moving to using more organic cotton and better production methods to decrease the impact of denim on the environment. Ultimately, quality clothing that lasts for years is more sustainable than fast fashion and so we strive to make sure all our suppliers provide us quality first. Classic pieces that suit your body and your style mean you have a wardrobe that naturally becomes more sustainable and we want to support our customers in achieving this.

You need to wear your style and own it to look your best.

At Death by Denim, we are all about making sure you leave with the perfect jeans, that suit your form, fit and most importantly flatter your body. The team is highly experienced in listening to you and your body so trust us and let us find the best fit for you. This goes for the guys as well as the girls... guys need the support getting the right pair too!
